Cory Shaffer, Northeast Ohio Media GroupCLEVELAND, Ohio The merger of city and county jail operations, gun violence and conditions at the city kennel are among the topics that headline the agenda for Cleveland City Council Safety Committee this season.New committee Chairman Matt Zone this week released a schedule of hearings and tours aimed at keeping his group in the know about some of the city most salient law enforcement and public safety issues.Here is Zone outline for topics he like the committee to address during the spring session and summer recess. Feel free to contribute your own thoughts on the public safety committee priorities in the comments section below.March 19: Members will hold a hearing on recently introduced legislation to transfer the city jails to Cuyahoga County.The idea has been discussed for years as part of ongoing reforms of the local criminal justice system. But legislation to make it a reality has finally hit the council table.Under the agreement, Cleveland basically would outsource operations to the county, reimbursing thethe the Predators jersey
county for its costs. The county thinks it can run the jails more efficiently through coordination and economies of scale. Projected savings would largely come from a reduced staff.Zone committee will discuss the legislation, record all members requests for further information on the project and examine the financial and operational impact the jail transfer would have on the city.March 20: Committee members will take a 2 hour tour of the Cleveland Kennel, observe its current conditions and discuss constructing a new facility.The kennel, a dreary 35 year old concrete facility on West 7th Street, came under scrutiny this summer after a handful of animal rescuers became upset over an outbreak of pneumonia there due to poor ventilation. The facility lacks air conditioning and houses up to 150 dogs in barren steel cages that can be properly disinfected.The city has been promising for several years to build a new kennel, and picked outout Predators jerseys cheap
